2001 to be an Industrial Year for Monroe
Wednesday, January 03, 2001 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
Since the announcement of the Kohl‘s project in Monroe, the amount of interest from large industrial developers has increased substantially. I believe 2001 will see one or two new industrial parks break ground in the city as a result.

We continue to work towards attracting a grocery store to the city. There is interest from two "well known" grocery retailers at this time. The reason this has been such a challenge is two-fold: 1) We simply do not have enough rooftops (population) for most of the grocery retailers to be able to make money, or even break even for that matter, and 2) Monroe is surrounded by at least seven grocery stores all within a 10 - 12 minute drive (or less) from Monroe. These factors make a Monroe grocery store a tough sell right now. However, with our continued increased residential growth of approximately 150 dwellings per year, I am confident a grocery store will locate a site in the city in a few years."
