After the Split - Ninth Grade Proficiency Test Results
Sunday, February 18, 2001 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
Monroe‘s first school year began last fall. By October, the 9th grade proficiency test was administered. The results of the tests are a good starting point for comparing future results. The students are measured in 5 areas: Science, Reading, Writing, Math and Citizenship.

While 86% of the students passed the Writing portion of the test (Better than Middletown 39%, Madison 53% and Lakota 70%), students scored poorly in Science 25% and Math 28%. Reading 44% and Citizenship 41% were average for area schools.

Monroe outscored Middletown in every area tested, but test results were disappointing for both school districts. To improve test results, the Monroe School district is focusing on curriculum based use technology such as computer programs and distance interactive video. MainStreetMonroe.com will be reporting on technology in Monroe Schools over the next school year.
