Council Seeks Public Input on Trash Pickup
Thursday, January 12, 2006 11:54:04 AM - Monroe Ohio

Recently the City of Monroe sought bids for the trash collection and recycling program throughout the City. After review of the three bids submitted, Rumpke, Inc. and Waste Management (our current hauler) are the lowest bidders.

Both Rumpke and Waste Management offer a one year contract with an option to renew for five additional years. Based on analysis performed by City staff, Rumpke would be the lowest bid for the first year; however, Waste Management may be lower in the next two to six years. Waste Managementís bid fluctuates due to the cost of diesel fuel. Therefore, not knowing what these costs will be in the future, it is a risk to award the bid to Waste Management. Regardless of which company the bid is awarded to, the monthly charge to the residents will not fluctuate from month to month.

City Council will make a decision at their January 24, 2006 Council meeting. Council would like to hear the thoughts of our citizens prior to making a decision. Residents are encouraged to contact the City Managerís Office by calling 513-539-7374 extension 3028 or sending an email at cityhall@monroeohio.org with their comments no later than Wednesday, January 18, 2006.
