DARE is coming to Monroe Elementary
Thursday, March 06, 2003 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
Officer Clark, a Butler Country Sheriff, is coming to Monroe Elementary to speak to our fifth grade students on Thursday’s. D.A.R.E. – Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a drug preventive program that is a collaborative effort between the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Elementary’s Staff, our parents, and the Monroe Community. The DARE curriculum provides accurate and current information about alcohol and drugs, teacher our students how to be assertive and to deal with peer pressure by effectively saying NO to drugs, as well as offering suggestions for making one’s own decisions and coping with life’s problems in positive ways. The DARE officers have been trained to teach our fifth graders how to recognize and resist the direct as well as the subtle pressures from their peers for drug experimentation. They teach the students about the dangers of drugs and gain self-confidence by role playing problem situations, facilitating group discussions, and the exchanging of ideas. Our students are taught to keep their bodies healthy, control their feelings when angry or under stress and to make safe and appropriate decisions. The concept of the DARE curriculum is quite simple – students – DARE to say NO!
