I asked Monroe City Manager, Bill Brock, for an update on the Home Depot Distribution Facility.
He said that Rob Smyjunis of Vandercar spoke to Council on Tuesday, January 13. Mr. Smjunis indicated that Home Depot does have plans for the facility in 2009.
2nd Quarter 2009 - Staffing begins
3rd Quarter 2009 - Full Operation of the warehouse facility
So what was the cause for the delay? According the Mr. Smjunis the delay was caused by both current poor economic conditions and logistics of bringing online several warehouse facilities online at the same time.
The warehouse is approximately 657,000 square feet and cost nearly $34 million to construct. It is supposed to bring in 200-250 jobs to start and may grow to 600 or more jobs. Kelley things that most of the jobs being filled will be filled by existing residents and workers from nearby areas.
