Coaches and Team After the Super Scrimmage
The Monroe High School men’s soccer team was undefeated at the Greeneview Super Scrimmage in Jamestown, OH Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12.
They played Yellow Springs on Saturday morning and won 4-0. In the first half Jake Essig scored twice and was assisted by Zach Holbrock and Nick Braden. Goalie Chase Collins had 1 save. In the second half Nick Braden and Bobby Beagle each had a goal and were assisted by Alex Hall and Jamie King respectively. Goalie Patrick McIntosh had 6 saves.
Saturday afternoon’s scheduled game against host team Greeneview was cancelled due to rain.
On Sunday the team played back-to-back games at 11:30 and 1:15 against Kenton Ridge and Northwestern, both of Springfield. They beat Kenton Ridge 3-0. The score at halftime was 0-0 but the Hornets scored three in the second half for the win. Scorers were Jake Essig, Zac Eckert and Nick Braden with assists by Nick Braden and Bobby Beagle. Goalies Patrick McIntosh and Chase Collins had 4 and 6 saves, respectively.
The only team to score against the Hornets this weekend was Northwestern. The Hornets were winning 2-0 at the half and both teams scored twice in the second half to make the final score 4-2. Monroe benefited from goals by Nick Braden, Zach Holbrock, and Jake Essig (2) with assists from Josh McCausland and Nick Braden. Goalie Patrick McIntosh had 6 saves in the first half and Chase Collins had 2 saves in the second half.
