Hornets Close out Season with Solid Win

On a cold  and wet Friday night in Dayton, the Hornets closed out their 2008 season with a solid victory over the Northridge Polar Bears.  Monroe  got on the board early in the 2nd quarter when junior Jeff Haller scooted around right end on an 11 yard touchdown scamper. Zach Eggert tacked on the extra point . Monroe increased the lead to 14-0 with 7:24 to play in the 3rd quarter when backup QB Sophomore David Routson, who entered the game in the 2nd quarter for injured starter Ben Leahy, pushed the ball in from the 1 yard line. Senior Jeremy Campbell scored the Hornets 3rd touchdown at the 8:51 mark of the 4th quarter on a 4 yard TD carry.  Campbell scored again with 1:25 to play  on a 5 yard run. The Polar Bears scored with 18 seconds to play on  Kyle Lingg 43 yard pass/run to his brother Kaleb Lingg.  Sophomore Devin King led all rushers with 121 yards on 17 carries. The Monroe defense was led by Nathan Morgan and Brad Hunt with 7 tackles respectively. Stuart Kehl recorded a sack and Derek Jackson intercepted 2 Polar Bear passes.  Monroe ended the season at 5-5 overall, 5-1 in the SWBL, but closed with 5 wins in their last 6 games.  A solid group of Hornet supporters welcomed the Hornets upon their return to the Monroe campus, expressing their thanks to the team and coaches for their efforts this season.
