Joanne Westwood, RHP
Receives National Recognition



DENTON, TEXAS – Joanne Westwood in Monroe, Ohio was awarded the national Retirement housing Professional (RHP) designation during the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging’s recent annual meeting held in San Diego, California. The RHP credential recognizes professionals who have successfully completed a 45-hour training program and written examination designed to promote excellence in facility administration and services to older adults. Ms. Westwood was among approximately 90 graduates in the class of 2001. Nationwide, the RHP National Certification Program currently has over 1200 graduates and 300 active candidates.

Ms. Westwood has dedicated the past 3.5 years to helping the elderly in a dignified environment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications form the University of Cincinnati.

RHP is a national certification program that provides comprehensive education and training to professionals involved in the management of assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and all types of senior housing. Founded in 1986 by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and joined in partnership in 2000 by the Department of Applied Gerontology at the University of North Texas, RHP is celebrating its 15th year of promoting a philosophy of excellence. The Department of Applied Gerontology at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas was among the first academic departments of gerontology in the country. The department‘s faculty is dedicated to improving the lifes of older persons through teaching, research and service in the field of aging. Nationally recognized for its graduate training programs, the department also offers a Specialist Certificate in Aging and houses a growing undergraduate program.

AAHSA is a national nonprofit organization representing 5,100 not-for-profit nursing homes, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living residences, senior housing facilities and community service organizations for the elderly. The association is based in Washington, DC with field offices in New York, Colorado, and Illinois.
