|As the City of Monroe continues down the path of fiscal responsiblity, some who work for the city will no longer be employed. Labor is the city's largest expense.
Four water and/or street department positions are to be eliminated and one will go unfilled. City layoffs will begin Oct. 5. No specific positions have been cited yet.
To save the city money, the water and street departments will be combined. Tim Booth is the superintendent of streets and Robert Takach is the water department boss. A decision has not been made as to who will lead the combined public works department or if either Booth or Takach will be let go.
