The Mason Road bridge was demolished in January of 2010. "Mason Road, under Interstate 75 within the City of Monroe, will be closed from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am, Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 8, 2011 to allow demolition of the existing I-75 bridge over Mason Road. Portable message signs will be erected on Mason Road advising of the dates and times of the closings. Police officers will be used to close the road during the demolition." See Mason Road Bridge demolition video.

Prelimary engineering plans call for up to five (5) lanes along Butler Warren and then feeding under the Mason Bridge or right turn to the mall. The road was closed again in April when the overhead crane was being deployed. In September of last year, Mason Rd. experienced intermittent 15 minute closings while new bridge beams are set over the road for the I-75 over Mason Rd. bridge construction. Closings will begin at 7am and was completed by 5pm.

In August, the bridge painting was started, calling for another temporary closing to get the job done and to  help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public. In late August, there were two nights of closures.

In total, the contruction of the bridge had minimal impact on Mason Road traffic. It was a very impressive project and now with the final paint and seal coating, the bridge will be completed.
