The City of Monroe has adopted legislation that allows for the newly reformed Monroe Area Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), a nonprofit organization, to assist the City of Monroe with its economic development strategy. The Monroe Area CIC has been actively participating in community projects over the past year and looks to increase its presence by assisting local businesses through two funding programs that encourage investment. The CIC hopes that local businesses will use these programs as part of a comprehensive approach to maintain business vitality and increase
employment opportunities for area residents.
The CIC's Downtown Development Grant Program focuses on projects that enhance the downtown area. The Business Exterior Matching Grant Program emphasizes the improvement of existing building facades, landscaping, and signage throughout the area. Grant applications and additional program information are available on the CIC's website at www.monroecic.org. Applications are due to the City of Monroe's Development Department by February 1, 2010, and the CIC anticipates awarding these funds in Spring 2010.
The Monroe Area CIC was incorporated on January 1, 2008 for the purpose of advancing, encouraging, and promoting the industrial, economic, commercial, and civic development of the City of Monroe and surrounding areas. The CIC was granted nonprofit status under Section 501(c)(4) by the Internal Revenue Service on July 21, 2009.
