Monroe Catching the Eye of High-Profile Companies
Thursday, January 04, 2001 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
Monroe Ohio is becoming a hot spot for big businesses, and others are noticing the trend. "Our phone has been ringing off the hook since Kohl‘s announcement because it is a very high-profile project." That was the statement made by Jay T. Stewart, Development Director. He also stated that he believes the growth in industry is directly related to the growth in residential areas. Jay stated " The more residents you have, the need for more homes and and commercial and industrial businesses will be greater, not the other way around. According to Stewart the numbers of residents is expected to increase by 400 to 500 people each year. The city still wants to hold it‘s small town community feel. The challenge, according to Stewart, is to control the growth.
In addition to the Kohl‘s projects others have been in development with speculation of a possible retail mall. Taubman Co. of Bloomfield Mich., has expressed the mall idea on 360 acres in the southeast quadrant of the I-75 and Ohio 63 interchange. Stewart claims that this idea is very viable. According to him there zoning is in place which is a very big step.
