Monroe Garden Club Announces Christmas Lighting Awards
Tuesday, January 23, 2007 12:41:25 PM - Monroe Ohio

Twenty-five entries of the 2006 Christmas Lighting Contest were judged recently.  Those receiving snow globes and award signs for their efforts are Sandy Cassidy for Child’s Delight.  The display included spotlighted Children’s Blow Up Lawn Ornaments and the house was trimmed in many white lights.  The Cassidy’s said that many cars and buses were around during the holiday and stopped to admire their display.  The Entry Way Award was won by Elaine Hohman.  Her display focused on the entrance to her home and included a lighted doorway, a wreath on the house, a bench with wrapped packages and two urns on each side of the entry decorated with red pyramidal Christmas bulbs and spotlighted with a flood light.  The Most Effective Use of Lights Category was garnered by Karen Johnson.  Lighted trees, a wreath and scalloped lighting around the perimeter of the roof outlined this display.  The Business Award went to the Monroe Historical Society’s 1910 Building and Museum for their efforts.  An honorable mention was given to The Country Flower Store.

“The committee was very pleased with the number of great entries this year”, stated Anna Hale Co-Chairman of the contest with Madonna Krol.  “It was a hard decision for the judges to select only three homes”.

The 2007 Christmas Lighting Contest will include added categories.  The Monroe Garden Club has been sponsoring this annual event since the 1960’ and plan to continue the tradition.  Thanks to all who entered this year.  Your efforts are greatly appreciated and made for a festive holiday display for the city.
