The Monroe Garden Club met Tuesday night at the James Monroe Community Room. A delicious fall dessert was served by Anna Hale and Pauline Belcher, hostesses. Peggy Abernathy, president presided over the business meeting. Anna Hale presented yearbooks to club members and announced programs for the coming year. A Civic Beautification Award was presented to the MacDonald Insurance Agency and to Laura & Ted Hensley, 303 Old Street for Outstanding Tranquillity Garden Award by Ellen Kinsey, awards chairman. Anna Hale & Judy Shillinglaw won several ribbons at the Springdale Amateur Flower Show on September 15th. Final plans for the Fall Card Party was completed. The Card Party will be Thursday, October 12, 2006 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM in the Activity Room on the Mount Pleasant Campus. The card party features good food, door prizes and a raffle. Cost is $7.00 per person. You may play any card or board game of your choice. Reservations are limited. Please call Pauline Belcher 539-8280 or Peggy Hesson 539-8407 for tickets. Pauline Belcher presented the program "The Art of Wreath Making". A beautiful fall wreath made with various colors of leaves and embellishments was demonstrated. Blue ribbons were presented to Peggy Abernathy for horticulture, Autumn Joy Sedum and the exhibit "Summer's End" a dried topiary arrangement to Anna Hale.
