Monroe Historical Society 1869 Era Baseball Game
Thursday, June 18, 2009 10:56:57 AM - Monroe Ohio
BaseballBaseball has been America's past time since the 1800's. For over 200 years people have taken to the fields of our country for a fun-filled time that everybody can enjoy. With all the advances on the game since its conception, many people do not remember how the game was first played and what it was like back in the 1800's.

Well, thanks to the Historical Society of Monroe and the Cincinnati Red Stockings-Cincinnati Buckeyes, we can all enjoy a game of baseball how it was played in the 1800's. The Monroe Historical Society and the Cincinnati Red Stockings-Cincinnati Buckeyes will be hosting an actual 1869 era baseball game just how it was played with all the same rules and equipment, which means no baseball gloves!

There will be more than just a baseball game though. There will be many different games, fun , and food from the era. Potato sack races, three-legged races, and more will be available to participate in as well. If you are interested in volunteering to play or would like more information on the game, then go to the City of Monroe Website. The game and festivities will be held on August 8, 2008 at the Monroe Community Park. Festivities will begin at 11:00 and the game will be at 1:00.
