Monroe Police Department Food Drive
Thursday, May 19, 2011 12:37:15 PM - Monroe Ohio

by John Beagle and Monroe Police Chief Gregory Homer

Beginning Monday, May 23rd through June 12th, the Monroe Police Department will be collecting canned goods, other non-perishable items and hygiene products. There will be a table set up in the foyer downstairs in the City Administration building.

The Police Department is planning to continue having two food drives a year.  Last year there were two very successful drives according to Monroe Police Chief Gregory Homer.

The food will be taken to to Shared Harvest Food Bank in Middletown.  Monroe residents, in need, are eligible to receive food from this pantry.

I asked Chief Homer, "What are your expectations on volumes collected?" He replied, " We hope to collect over 2000 pounds of food and hygiene products."

The volunteers who work at the food bank are always so happy to see us when we arrive with the donations.  Knowing that a small donation of just a case of corn can help feed 12 families is fantastic.  Anyone in the community who wants to drop off products just bring them to the downstairs foyer in the City Administration Building.  If you want Monroe Police to pick up the items please call 513-539-9234.

Clean out your pantry or pick up some extra sale items at the grocery.  Everything is appreciated.  Unlike many big fund charities, every single item or every penny of your cash donation goes to the food bank.  Oh Yeah, the police can take cash donations.  The Monroe police departhemtn will then get their coupons together and do the shopping.

"The Monroe Police Department and Communication Center thanks everyone for their assistance in this endeavor.  Please help us make it a success." - Chief HOmer
