Thursday, March 02, 2000 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
The Monroe Police department called to action its K-9 unit over the weekend. At approximately 8 pm Saturday night a masked gunman held up Denny‘s Drive Thru on Main Street in Monroe. The owner of Denny‘s said "..no one was hurt, but a shot was fired, presumably by accident." The robber was described as a 6 foot black man who wore a ski mask. The man walked right up to the window of the drive thru and brandished a gun. The frightened clerk who was on the phone with her mother, let the gunman in. The clerk‘s mother called 911. The weapon discharged hitting the cash register. No other shots were fired. The gunman fled with an undetermined amount of money on foot. The Monroe Police Department arrived within minutes of the robbery. Officer David Chasteen with his K-9 partner, Duke, immediately tracked the suspect to Macready Avenue. No other information is available at this time.
