Monroe School Board Member Declines Full Pay

Elected to the School board, Mike Irwin will be compensated only $1 per meeting to 'keep it legal'. Mike said he didnít want the money during his campaign, and now that he is elected, he is standing by his pledge.
 
Monday at the districtís first meeting of the year, Mr.. Irwin made it official. He refused to accept the normal school board member pay of $125 per meeting.
 
The $125 Monroe board members receive is the maximum rate allowed by law. There can be up to 24 paid meetings per year for a maximum total pay of $3000 per year per school board member.
