|It may be out of business, but the Monroe Times along with the Middletown Journal continue to pursue Monroe Local Schools in a legal case over what constitutes a public record. The local newspaper is costing Monroe Taxpayers thousands of dollars in legal and other costs over this issue.
The disagreement is summarized below:
As soon as a public official uses public pen and writes on a public paper, that text is public.
A public record is not an internal communication between faculty, staff or board members. Records become public domain when an official actionable record is ready for discussion or execution.
Middletown Journal, drop this case and stop costing Monroe Taxpayers money. We trust our school officials to release all essential public information to you on a timely basis.
