School Board Debates over Open Enrollment *Revised
Monday, February 09, 2004 6:37:22 PM - Monroe Ohio
On one side, you have Board Member Carol Brotherton questioning if the school district loses money with open enrollment. And Board President Jamie Pierce stating that he is 'fundamentally opposed to open enrollment.'

On the other side, Board Member Rocky Heflin countering that opinion stating that revenue from open enrollment helps cover some 'fixed costs' in the district. And Tom Birdwell who said that discontinuing open enrollment would be detrimental to the number of class offerings the school district could offer.

Approximately 13% of the students are participating in the open enrollment program. This generates approximately $900,000.

What is your opinion? Are you in favor of open enrollment as long as we have the room? or opposed because we are helping students outside our school district?Take me to the Survey
