School Board Recognition Month Celebrated at Monroe Local Schools

Monroe Local School Board members Jamie Piece, Tom Birdwell, John Birch, Suzi Rubin and Carol Brotherton left Monday night‘s school board meeting with an armload of plaques and certificates and a heart full of good wishes and thanks from the community, the county and the state of Ohio. In recognition of School Board Recognition Month the Monroe High School Show Choir performed under the direction of Mrs. Tendum. The following people and organizations presented the school board with various items of appreciation: John Boehner-letter of commendation, Scott Nein-proclamation, Mayor Tannreuther-proclamation, Lemon Township Board of Trustees-plaque, County Commissioners-commendation, Dan Hare, Superintendent of Butler County Schools-words of appreciation, Monroe Local School district-plaques, and Gary Cates-words of appreciation. The school board meeting started with a party-like atmosphere as attendees were provided with cake, punch and various snacks in the media center at the high school.
After the meeting was called to order Rhonda Williams and two of her students in the ALPS program (Accelerated Learning Program for Students), Johnny Beagle and Cameron Tolliver, presented an overview of the gifted and talented program at Monroe Elementary. Dr. Wilson followed up with a discussion of how students were identified originally as gifted and/or talented in the new school district and what will be done in the future for these students and those who have been identified since then by the Stamford Achievement Test
