...SNOW AND STRONG WINDS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT...
Friday, January 13, 2006 5:31:24 PM - Monroe Ohio

AN INTENSIFYING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL TRACK THROUGH THE LOWER GREAT LAKES THIS EVENING. MUCH COLDER AIR WILL BE PULLED SOUTH INTO THE OHIO VALLEY LATE TONIGHT ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE LOW. THIS WILL ALLOW RAIN TO CHANGE TO SNOW AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE CHANGEOVER IS EXPECTED IN THE CINCINNATI AND DAYTON AREAS BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 2 AM...IN THE COLUMBUS AREA BETWEEN 2 AND 4 AM...AND IN THE PORTSMOUTH AREA BETWEEN 4 AND 5 AM. A PERIOD OF MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOW IS POSSIBLE FOR A BRIEF PERIOD IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CHANGEOVER. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION BY DAYBREAK SATURDAY. HOWEVER WITH TEMPERATURES REMAINING NEAR OR ABOVE FREEZING FOR MUCH OF THE NIGHT...ACCUMULATIONS WILL LIKELY BE REDUCED.

ANOTHER ASPECT TO THIS SYSTEM IS THE POTENTIAL FOR STRONG WINDS. WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH MIDNIGHT ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY. LOOSE OBJECTS SHOULD BE SECURED. SNOW SHOWERS AND WIND GUSTS TO 30 MPH WILL CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY MORNING BEFORE DIMINISHING DURING THE AFTERNOON. AN ADDITIONAL LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE ACROSS CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL OHIO DURING THE MORNING.
