|Betty Montgomery's office wants a formal letter signed by Monroe Mayor Mike Morris, requesting an audit of the city finances. Upon receiving the 2002 City Financial report, the State of Ohio Auditors office is interested in assembling a staff to perform an audit. If the city complies and sends the mayors letter, the state will proceed with the audit as soon as it can put together a staff of qualified state personnel. This could happen within the next several weeks.
Mayor Morris, BKD (the city auditors) and personnel from the state auditors office met to discuss the current City Financial Report. Mr. Morris asked the state auditors why there was no request for audit in 2001. The state auditors department was in a 'state of transition', was the reason given for no 2001 review.
Morris went on to say, "Lets face it, the (increase in costs in the) Police and Fire Departments are eating the General Fund up".
There is no cost to the city for the state audit
