Beginning this summer, Butler County has instituted a summer sewer credit for Monroe residents for usage in the months of June, July and August. For residential customers, there are allowances for water delivered to the customer. Since water used for lawn sprinkling, car washing, filling pools, etc., does not normally enter the sewer system, it is considered appropriate and reasonable to make certain allowances for these non-sewage volumes. During summer months, sewer bills will be based on the average water usage during the four-month winter time period. Customers will continue to pay the regular rate for water consumed, but will not be paying the sewer bills based strictly on gallons used in the summer. If you are a new customer and do not have a winter usage history, you will not be billed for more than 6000 gallons of sewer per month during June, July, and August. The sewer credit will be reflected on the bills mailed July 1, August 1 and September 2.
You may have a second meter installed at your expense that will measure outside water usage separately for all months. You would not be billed for sewer at all on this meter, but you would be billed a monthly $5.00 facility fee plus water usage. Please call the Utility Department at 539-7374 or 779-4729 if you have questions.
