Taft sends Middletown Battalion to Katrina Zone

The 324th Military Police Battalion, based out of Middletown, Ohio, headed south Friday to assist with recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina.

The battalion is among 1,500 troops from Ohio that Governor Bob Taft is sending as part of "Operation Buckeye" to help protect the Hurricane affected Gulf Coast states.

The local troops are going first to Shelby, Mississippi for staging.
