Tax Funding for Monroe being Questioned
Friday, July 21, 2000 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
Should the Monroe School District be able to receive local tax dollars approved by voters when Monroe was still part of the Middletown School System? That is a question that local and state officials have not yet been able to answer. According to Butler County Auditor‘s Office and officials with the state tax department Monroe is not entitled to those taxes. Monroe school officials have decided to turn this matter over to the district attorney and expect to hear something with in the next week. . This whole issue has taken Dan Hare, a consultant of Monroe schools and superintendent of Butler County schools, by surprise. He said that there are many Ohio Supreme Court cases, which support Monroe‘s claim. Hare said Monroe was going to deal with this through the Butler County Budget Commission but is yet to receive any kind of response. Said Hare, " We never received an official position about this. I did not know it this issue was forwarded to the attorney general‘s office. Until I get something in writing, what am I supposed to react to?"
