The Monroe Neighborhood Watch Association

August 7, 2001 from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., the Monroe Neighborhood Watch Association hosted a community cookout for the citizens of Monroe. This was for National Night Out, which is in its 19th year. Monroe has been in National Night Out for 6 years. the cook-out had a 50's theme to it and several people wore outfits pertaining to that time. Children participated in a best outfit contest and a dance contest where prizes were given out. All the food and drinks were contributed to the event, along with prizes such as food certificates form Perkins, Fast Lane Pizza, and White Castle. A gas grill was donated by Worthington Steel and two ferns were donated by Berns Nursery and a hair cut form the Mane Shop. Steve Bowman provided the 50's music and the crowd listened to words of encouragements form Mayor Tannreauther. National Night Out is a time for the citizens to come out and have fun, while meeting the police officers and administration and learning about crime prevention. The Monroe Fire Department attended and had their trucks and other equipment out for the citizens. We were please with the turnout, even though it was very hot! We had fun and are already planning the event for next year.
