Last year, council voted to leave the local area chamber of commerce which covers Monroe, Middletown and Trenton.

Today at the meeting, council voted to renew membership in The Chamber.

This was considered in part due to the point that Bill Brock made that by being members, at least we have a seat at the table.

Video coming tomorrow.

[br]West Chester Chamber considers Monroe to be 'The Middletown Chamber's' territory. West Chester is more interested in developing business in West Chester and not for Monroe.

[br]So, are we saying that the initial decision to withdraw from the Middletown Chamber was not well thought through? Should the Council have consulted some more Monroe businesses before making that decision? Why the abrupt turnaround? Why are Bob and Suzi so set against it yet the rest of Council is willing to rejoin the Middletown Chamber?

Why not just stay in the West Chester Chamber? Was that not working out?

Sure, let's start our own Chamber. That way the world will revolve around us - at least in our minds.

Kinda the way Middletown feels about us from what I understand. They certainly don't seem to want to attract business to Monroe.

Didn't we know that going into the deal?? Was there any due diligence done on this at all or was it all emotional???

If all emotional, have other decisions been made without the proper research and question asking?? I'm just amazed that it went from a unanimous decision to leave Middletown to a 5-2 decision to rejoin. What a turnaround!!!!

SunCoke and RT 63 are the sticking points. If the city wants to be seen as pro-business, then it needs to be involved in the top area economic action group at minimum.

buckeyenut, yes I agree, Monroe should ultimately get its own chamber.

Did you listen to Bill Brock and Mayor Routson's rational for rejoining. I think they raised several good points for rejoining.

I think rejoining OUR chamber is also supporting our Monroe Chamber Member business community.

Perhaps I am unsure why a public entity would join a Chamber of Commerce? What is the benefit? I admit much ignorance on the subject but there seems to be such a fine line, as expressed by the whole Suncoke issue. The Chamber supports the enterprise but our City does not. What does having a seat at the table do for us? (besides give us the opportunity to stare each other right in the eye as we disagree?)

Yes, the City wants to support its businesses but I think that can be done in many productive ways via Mr. Chesar and his department. What does membership cost the city? As a business, the Chamber seems quite beneficial as a networking tool, group insurance, etc.

I'd rather see Monroe start their own Chamber. We have economic death to the north and prosperity to the south. With our own Chamber, we could perhaps benefit from our unique demographic.

I think the process worked. Mr. Brock had some good reasons to join as did Mr. Triick. If you think supporting the Chamber is bad for Monroe, then you are not considering the big picture.

Kudos to Anna Hale, Bob Routson, Todd Hickman, Tracy Shell and Lora Stillman for voting YES to rejoin the Middletown Chamber.

Kudos to Suzi Rubin & Bob Kelley for voting NO to rejoin the Chamber.

Wait a second!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now we realize that we at least have a seat at the table?????????

We dropped the Middletown Chamber to go to West Chester. How is that process going? DO we still belong to West Chester? Do they cater to our whims (unlike Middletown) or have we discovered that we're just a small fish in a large pond?

How interesting that now 5 Council members think it's a good idea to go back to Middletown when ALL of them (except Todd) thought we should leave a little over a year ago.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?
