Posted - 02/10/2010 : 8:42:40 PM THE year 1866 was signalised by a remarkable incident, a mysterious and puzzling phenomenon, which doubtless no one has yet forgotten. Not to mention rumours which agitated the maritime population and excited the public mind, even in the interior of continents, seafaring men were particularly excited. Merchants, common sailors, captains of vessels, skippers, both of Europe and America, naval officers of all countries, and the Governments of several States on the two continents, were deeply interested in the matter.
For some time past vessels had been met by "an enormous thing," a long object, spindle-shaped, occasionally phosphorescent, and infinitely larger and more rapid in its movements than a whale.
The facts relating to this apparition (entered in various log-books) agreed in most respects as to the shape of the object or creature in question, the untiring rapidity of its movements, its surprising power of locomotion, and the peculiar life with which it seemed endowed. If it was a whale, it surpassed in size all those hitherto classified in science. Taking into consideration the mean of observations made at divers times -- rejecting the timid estimate of those who assigned to this object a length of two hundred feet, equally with the exaggerated opinions which set it down as a mile in width and three in length -- we might fairly conclude that this mysterious being surpassed greatly all dimensions admitted by the learned ones of the day, if it existed at all. And that it did exist was an undeniable fact; and, with that tendency which disposes the human mind in favour of the marvellous, we can understand the excitement produced in the entire world by this supernatural apparition. As to classing it in the list of fables, the idea was out of the question.

What is convenient about evolution and how has Darwins theory been proven incorrect? I must have missed that.
I won't even get started on the bible.
Sure it's a theory. I'm not asleep at any wheel.
It's at the very least a theory based in reality and not a fairytale world. That's all I'm saying.
has anyone visited the museum of make believe down in Kentucky? Their stories about the Dinosaurs are EPIC. I bet you didn't know man walked the earth with Dinosaurs but they did!!!!! Who knew?
I see nothing wrong with school children learning science. Science is something with hypothesis and then evidence based proof.
I would rather children learned about science in school than what a book of fairy tales has to say, especially 1 based entirely on faith.
If you have religious beliefs then it's your right to raise your children that way and teach them anything you want at home/church. The school will stick to science and you should want your children to learn science, it is important.
There are a large group of scientist who disagree with you and those other scientist in evolutions corner. Modern science points toward it being impossible. You are obviously asleep at the wheel. Open your eyes and observe what has recently been discovered to disprove your theory, and by the way it is just that and nothing more a theroy!!!

Posted - 02/09/2010 : 11:08:09 AM Dang... I will have to check out that museum, Man walking with Dinosaurs. But then again if you watched Land of the Lost back in the days, there were humans living with Dinosaurs. Since I have a degree in Zoology I guess I am biased but I have studied all thoughts of evolution.
and Blublood I never mentioned Darwin in my post...u did.... . There is no possible way that all possible fossils have been found or will EVER be found. We cannot destroy all of the earth digging up fossils. There is more evidence every day that the first dinosaurs had feathers, hence evolving from birds.
I could go on and on... LOL
11 million books and counting, bring it on!!!!

Posted - 02/09/2010 : 11:03:18 AM I'm not wading into the evolution debate because no one will "win" that one
Travel back in time and join inquisitive archeologists, Taki and Tut, and their fossil friend, Lucy, as they eexplore the wonders of ancient civilization. From the farm laborers of early Mesopotamia and Egytian mummies who rap to a chorus of ancient Greeks and Romulus and Remus who dream of building a great city, you and your students will love discovering the archeological mysteries of the past.
Because that does not sound like any sort of underlying evolutionary theme

After hearing both sides, and learning over the course of their life they will come to a conclusion on what they believe.

The Swine Flu is a virus that had evolved and adapted itself to survive. It is currently evolving again and will show itself in time as another strain. This plus many other examples show that evolution is all around us.
The only "convenient" thing is the bible. It has great stories, I will give you that but John Grisham writes good stories too. In college I studied Lucy and other progressions of the human lineage and there are a lot of great information there. Chimps and humans share 98% of their genetic material.
My kids do know the truth
I never said I didn't believe in evolution, only in Darwinian terms. Things evolve all the time but there is absolutely zero evidence that some animal became another and if there were there would be billions of fossils proving it. There have been many farces over the years proving just what a farce Darwinian evolution is.

Posted - 02/09/2010 : 10:35:04 AM Teach your kids the truth. If Darwin were alive today and knew what we now know, he would have never said what he said and he says as much in his writings. Scientific evolution theory in Darwinian terms is a farce and the more we learn, the more it is apparent. Most will continue to hold onto it because it is a "convenient truth".
