During the community festivities at San Juan Capistrano, associates collected military information, memorabilia and photos of all their veteran residents; which were then put on display around the community to showcase each veteran’s service and accomplishments.

During the community’s ceremony each veteran’s name was ceremonially called to announce their military service. The distinction of this honor brought tears to many of their eyes and as they were applauded, many of our associates and families in attendance were equally moved.

At our Scottsdale community the celebration began with cupcakes, lemonade and live entertainment. The Community Administrator, Amber McCord spoke to about the importance of Memorial Day and recited the poem “In Flanders’ Fields” by John McCrae (May, 1915).

At 3:00PM the service moved to the center courtyard for observance of the National Moment of Silence. The name of each community veteran was then read aloud, alongside the names of past residents and followed by a release of Red, White and Blue balloons. The ceremony was capped off with a performance by the Silverado Choir, made up of both residents and associates.

Although our residents are all at different stages of memory-impairment, the distinction of having served their country is still a very important and fondly cherished aspect of their lives. The history of their accolades lives on in their memories and it is our honor to commemorate them for their service to us all. http://www.a1indoreflowers.com
