EATON, Ohio - James A. Eyler, age 86, of Eaton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Jan.y 18, 1925, in Camden, Ohio, to the late John William and Ruth (Sayler) Eyler. Jim was a 1943 graduate of Monroe High School; was a lifelong Preble County farmer; attended the Eaton United Church of Christ; was a former member of the Producers Livestock Association and the Eaton Farm Bureau; was an avid card player, Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds fan and dearly loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna May (Kramer) Eyler of Eaton, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Murphy of Eaton, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gary Gregg of Camden, Ohio; son, Marty Eyler of Eaton, Ohio; grandchildren, Kathy (Mark) Willis, Shawn (Elizabeth) Murphy, Shelley (Jeff) Powers, Jason (Lindsey) Gregg and Travis (fiancée`Anna Weber) Gregg; and great- grandchildren, Cameron and Sarah Willis, Sophia, Tess and Grace Murphy, John and Maddie Powers and Maxx and Anna Gregg.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Eaton United Church of Christ, 113 W. Decatur St., Eaton, Ohio, with Rev. Roger Stine and Wayne Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton, Ohio. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Eaton United Church of Christ or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
