Monroe tied Oakwood 1-1 after regulation and two overtime periods. The teams went to penalty kicks where Monroe scored 5 of 5 and the Hornet goalie blocked Oakwood's 5th kick to give Monroe the win.

Monroe plays Dayton Carroll at Valley View on Monday, 10/22 at 7pm.

What an awesome game tonight!! Was a better crowd with a decent amount of students who got to rush the field on the victory save!!

Hopefully a decent crowd to venture up to Valley View!!

This has got to be one of the best soccer teams ever!

Keep up the good work! Best of luck against Dayton Carroll. The are the one team my boys (who also played soccer for Monroe) couldn't beat.

You will have to be on your game to win. If you do it, you will make Hornet Soccer History.

Godspeed Hornets!

What a fantastic game! I gotta say, I was honestly impressed with the amount of talent on this roster. There doesn't seem to be a "weak spot" at all.

Oakwood definitely played for the shootout during the second overtime period. They were packed 10 deep, never crossing their own 35 yard line but the Hornets kept shooting away like they were playing a real life version of Nintendo Duck Hunt.

Honestly, I think that in the history of the Men's soccer program, that if there were ever a chance to beat Carrol - this team has a really good chance to get that done.

Go Hornets!

I remember when the boys varsity tied Carroll. Played all-out defense the whole game and hoped we would get a goal on a fast break. I think tied 1-1. Might have been Coach Oster's first year...

Great point.

When I think back to the year before Coach Oster started, I still feel like the boys got cheated. From what I can see from the couple of games that I've attended; Coach Oster is a fantastic coach with a true command of his squad. Monroe is fortunate to have the staff that it does.

This is no knock on Coach Gannon but if Oster would have been at the helm when John's boys and my son were on the team; I think they would have gone a bit further in the postseasons.

I’m almost certain that this is coach Oster’s 4th year at Monroe, and he’s only taken the Hornets against Dayton Carroll once before – last year’s playoff loss 0-1. Since coach Oster has been at Monroe, the notable games in my opinion were:

This year (2012)
2012 Tied Oakwood twice
2012 Tied Fenwick (they benefitted from a bad call in the box with less than 10 seconds to go in the game to tie Monroe 1-1).
2012 Talawanda Win 1-0

Last year (2011)
2011 Chaminade-Julienne Win 2-1 in the playoffs
2011 Tied Oakwood

2010 Greenon (Springfield) Win 3-2
2010 Oakwood Win 1-0
2010 Tied Alter (kettering) in the playoffs, but lost 0-1 in the second sudden death overtime period.

2009 Greenon (Springfield) Win 3-1
2009 West Carrollton 2-2
2009 Big Walnut (Sunbury) 2-2
2009 Tied Oakwood in playoffs 1-1 but lost in sudden death overtime from a questionable penalty called in our box.
2009 Miami Valley School (Dayton) Win 2 -1 (I don't remember if they were supposed to have been any good)

Monroe’s also defeated and/or tied Edgewood and Ross over the 4 seasons that coach Oster has been at Monroe. Here’s a good web page to look through Monroe’s past seasons: http://www.ossca.org/schedules.asp?qtype=teamschedule&season=2011&B_G=B&team=566

This game on Monday is a rematch of last year. Monroe played an all-out defense last year & the blocked penalty kick was awesome! That was the most intense game I have ever watched. These boys this year are so good & work together as a team. I really think they have a GOOD chance at beating Carroll. I hope we can get pack the stands & support them. They deserve it! Hope to see everyone there...=)

Unfortunately the Hornet’s season ended last night with a loss to Dayton Carroll 2-0 in the District semi-final match. The Hornets had many opportunities to score but just couldn’t find the net. Monroe ended the season 13-3-3 with 78 goals scored and 15 allowed.
