What a great turnout for the Kenny Ellis benefit at the Red Onion Caf!

I am proud to announce that $2,150.00 was collected in food specials, donations and split the pot. I am also proud to announce a few other things that may not have happened without some really terrific people:

Sharon Crist - Without her and this great idea, this event would not have happened.
Mark Bursley for saying, Here, take my caf and do what you need to do. And oh, heres a bunch of food to make profits from.".
The Garver Farm Staff for hand picking this terrific corn for us. The meals would not have been as great without it.
Chef Gary Henz for planning and having such great ideas. Without which, this would not have been such a hit (We all hope you are feeling better).
John Crist for creating the most rockin fire hydrant Ive ever seen that will be given to Kenny and his family.
Bob Kelly (again) for with his wonderful signs
Mike Schlorman & Kathy Moore who ran the split the pot.Aggressively I might add
The guy that won the split the pot and donated half of it back

The entire staff of the Red Onion (who I now respect more than ever!) as listed below;
Sharon Crist
Katie Gurlock
Jill Stork (and her sis)
Jordon Frei
Brain Russel
Tim Lafayette
Mallory Lafayette
Bert & Shelly Sisk

If you ever thought this whole bartending/waitressing/cooking thing was a walk in the park, go ahead and re-think that one. In the future when I hear, Dont forget to tip your waitresses and bartenders, Ill know why. The job is hard enough, but I had Grimes (aka Corn Boy) with, Wheres the corn?, What do I have to do to get more corn? Is that corn still available every 90 seconds or so YES I got him more corn. Like I had a choice?

Special thanks to the Firefighter wives - Sports Mom , Alecia Conte and Jenica McGinnis for once again supporting something they truly believe in. Big thanks to Summerlover, Sunshine, Star Rider (he was helping the girls too) and Mindi for an unrivaled support of our Fire Department. Sports Mom called them to help and they were there within a half hour and ready to work.

And most of all, the citizens of Monroe who stopped by, ate, drank and were definitely merry! The Fire Department is so lucky to have the support, respect and appreciation of a great community. In the midst of this rather unusual weather event, people without electric, cable, hot water, cool drinks, roofs, ice or any perishable foods came out. We havent lost our small town feel, I saw it and know it exists. For all those who gave, you have done a wonderful thing. Many of you have supported the Fire Department whenever we have asked for help in the past and deserve our most sincere thanks!

Like Sports Dad said, Mark Bursley is the genuine article. Him and his staff put this entire fundraiser together even with what happened the last couple of days. He is the most unselfish person I have ever met in my life and it is an honor to be his friend (Peas and Carrots right Mark?)

Sports Dad, you already know this, but in case you didn't hear me the 100 times I said it, my BIGGEST HUGS, KISSES AND MORE to you!!! You have worked non-stop since Sunday afternoon helping this city try to get back to a "normal" state and you never stop giving. You were and still are exhausted, but you used your wit and charm while smiling the entire night to make it the success it was.

Thats impressive.

The total is up to $2,256 and is still growing!

Sports Dad and I had a nice dinner at the Red Onion last night and people that could not make it Monday night donated to this great cause.

Thanks Monroe!

Thanks SM for texting me to let us know the fundraiser was still on. We had thought it would be cancelled due to the blackouts and my family was THRILLED to get a DELICIOUS, HOT meal after such a horrible day. We were all hungry and exhausted, had two refrigerators full of spoiled food and with no power, phone or the Voice, we were literally in the dark to what was going on. This was my mom & dad's first Red Onion meal and they both loved it! (which is saying ALOT!) To Mark, Gary, SM, SD, and all the volunteers: THANK YOU for not only helping the Ellis family but all of Monroe.

Mark decided to "carry on" with the Fundraiser and I'm so happy he did. Not only was it a succees, but a lot of families were able to get a HOT YUMMY meal.

Just now got internet back. Talked to Gary last week and he said they had done $2000. Glad to hear that total is still growing. The food was delicious and much appreciated! I'm glad Monroe banded together for such a great cause. I'm proud to be part of this community!

John Centers rules as high-dollar guest tender at the Onion. Thank you, John. You could
make a decent living as a bartender. The guests loved you and your cause.

Thanks also to all of the crew you and your wife pulled together to help the cause.

Thanks also for your praise; however, I think it was more due to self-preservation than
anything. The Red Onion seats only about 50 and that only leaves room for about 15 standing.
I have worked at the Onion for 3 years and I know what it is like to deliver food and drinks
to the masses. When I heard you were guest tending for this cause, I almost had an
anxiety attack and suggested the "Fireman's Special" to Big Mark. I knew your co-workers and
friends would be there in full support. I did not know Hurricane Ike would follow.

All things work to an intended end and good purpose. We have to look for the good in our
circumstances. Power had been out in Monroe for 24 hours. People were panicked and hungry.
I did not know until 8:30 a.m. Monday morning when the Onion's power was restored that I
would be reporting to work for my Monday double. I barely got a break from 2:15 to 3:15 and
the fun continued. I enjoyed working with you and of course, the good people of Monroe
who always rise to the occasion of supporting a good cause. My prayers are with the Ellis
family and all of you and your fellow firefighters and your families. Thank you for
all you do to keep us safe and secure in our homes.

It's all good...and sometimes it get's better!

The hydrant is over at the Rt. 4 fire station. They wanted to make sure everyone signed it. Sports Dad said he would get a couple pics for you before it is taken to Kenny.

HEHE!

Your Hair Should Be Blonde

You are outgoing, light hearted, and a ton of fun.

You don't take life too seriously, and you do your best to charm everyone you meet.

You are very energetic. People tend to underestimate you, but you can get a lot done.

You do tend to be a bit sensitive. If someone has a bad opinion of you, it truly hurts.

You are cunning and clever. You are smart, but you aren't book smart or academic.

Some people may think you're superficial, but they're not seeing the whole picture.
