This is a letter from the Middletown chamber president sent to Monroe businesses about the ST RT 63 extension. I have redacted the name of the business out of the letter.

Attn: Monroe Businesses

We mailed to you last week a one page survey that we respectfully ask you to complete and return to our office (fax 422-6831) by Monday, Dec 29 concerning the proposed extension of state route 63 to the West from the present terminus at Route 4 to Route 127 on the far side of Trenton.

The chamber is trying to measure the impact, if any, of such a project on Monroe businesses and whether or not, in general, you favor the project.
It has been envisioned for some time that the completion of this road project would open up an efficient logistical connection to and from the West and stimulate increased retail, commercial, and residential growth along the route plus provide a more efficient connection to Interstate 70 to the West and Northwest.

Butler County recently made this project one of its top two infrastructure priorities for the upcoming federal stimulus package consideration. It is important that we assess the opinions of the Monroe business community.

Every business that participates in this survey will be given a copy of the summary results.

Thank you, Bill Triick

Is any part of the 63 project in Middletown or are they just starting to promote Monroe now that they were dropped?

The addition to St RT 63 would be in the township to the west of Monroe and in to Trenton and over to the ST RT 127. The Chamber President has also supported this project. The Project would require money spent from all Cities/Townships along the route including Monroe.

The position of the chamber and Bill is that this would be good for Monroe. We would be able to get more products to ST RT 75 from Trenton and at some point more businesses would locate in Monroe helping our economic growth. As we already have ST RT 63 though our community, I am not sure how this would help us in Monroe.

I believe the official position on this issue is that Monroe is against the extension.

That is correct John as we had a vote of no support of that project in the early part of 08.

Not to mention, there is no funding for the project. Mr Triick expects Monroe to pay full price for the section which includes construction and maintenance of a bridge. It would also change all of the TIS (traffic impact studies) studies that have been done for 63 and related projects. Those would result in more lanes, more turn lanes, more traffic through town the majority of which would be heavy truck traffic. Monroe would be expected to shoulder the expense for all of that.

We received this email today, but had not received the letter that was mentioned. It was the first we had heard of it.

Didn't the county request a sum of around 165 million dollars from the state for this project recently?

We're not in the Chamber, so I'm not sure how they got our email address.
