Successful Fall Season Comes To End

The 2009 fall sports season has been completed and many achievements, accomplishments and awards have been earned. The Boys’ soccer team went undefeated and captured the Southwest Buckeye League – Buckeye Division Championship. First team All League honors went to Jake Essig, Nick Braden, Nick Streibick and Alex Ruckman. Josh McCausland, Pat McIntosh and Conner McEwen garnered second team honors and Bobby Beagle, and Jamey King were selected as honorable mention. Coach Mike Oster was named coach of the year. Zach Holbrock was SWBL newcomer of the year and Jake Essig was named player of the year and was selected for first team All Miami Valley Coaches Association Team. Josh McCausland, Alex Ruckman, Nick Streibick and Pat McIntosh made third team All District. Derek Garde earned the Sportsmanship Award and Alex Mitchell and Derek Garde were honored for the Academic Excellence Award.

Girls ’ soccer completed the season by reaching the Sectional Finals where they were defeated by Fenwick. Carli Davis and MacKenzie Sullivam were first team SWBL and Carley Williams and Jazmine Wells were selected to the second team. Selections to the Miami Valley Coaches association All District team were Carley Williams first team, MacKenzie Sullivan and Sarah Brown, second team and Carli Davis and Regan Taulbee, third team.

Boys ’ golf took third place in the SWBL and Jamie Lentz and Logan Rutter were named first team SWBL and Dakota Fisher made honorable mention. Logan Rutter qualified for the District tournament as an individual qualifier.

Girls ’ tennis continued to make strides in only the second year of play. Cayli Baldwin was named as honorable mention SWBL.

Cross Country looks to continue to build the program. The Alex Futz Invitational started off the season and two freshman runners showed great promise during the season. Courtney Davis finished second and Emily Black clocked in at fourth at the SWBL finals.

Girls ’ volleyball surprised many teams this year as they finished the season with an 11–13 season while playing a lineup consisting of three freshman players mixed in with the upperclassmen. Big things are expected from the volleyball program in years to come. Freshman Samantha Streibick was named first team SWBL and Ashley Cooper and Reegan Reece were named honorable mention.

Football completed their successful season with a trip to the regional semi final playoff game against state ranked and undefeated Wyoming. The Hornets finished as tri–champs of the SWBL – Buckeye Division. Many team and individual records were broken during the course of the season. Ben Leahy tied the record for most kickoff returns for touchdowns with three and established a new longest kickoff return of 98 yards against Fenwick. Devin King became the all time single season rushing leader. Post season awards were numerous as Ben Leahy, Devin King, Joe Farrish and Logan Pence were named first team SWBL. Ryan Leahy, Nate Morgan, Seth Beatty and Joe Rainey were selected second team SWBL and Ramone Boyce, Mark Miller and Stephen Kelley were named honorable mention. Devin King was named co – back of the year, Logan Pence was co– lineman of the year and Ben Leahy was co– specialist of the year. Coach Meibers was also named co – coach of the year for his leadership. Logan Pence, Zach Eckert and Ben Leahy were named All District first team. Joe Rainey and Mark Miller were selected to the second team and Joe Rainey, Joe Farrish, Seth Beatty, Nate Morgan and Ryan Leahy garnered honorable mention.
