Read today about a e-neighborhood program.
“e-neighborhood?”

What makes it an e-neighborhood program as opposed to just a neighborhood watch?

Mike Worley was referenced in the article. I send him an email asking the same questions.

Mentioned is a signup, I don’t see it on the city site. How does one go about signing up?

Also what businesses are participating on the business side of the program?

Is this program a secret? for being an e program it isn't any 'e' where. Not on the city's e- site, just a brief mention from a local news source.

Well Mike said 'everyone was on vacation' in the summer, so why bother getting advanced word out on a program where most of the non e-crime occurs.

Yea, keep it a secret for now. Wait to start this next fall, when 'everyone' gets back from vacation.

Why not publish an e-newsletter that breaks down crime statistics by area? HB used to do that. They were also available at the grocery check-outs or you could pay $10 a year to subscribe to a print edition that included Neighborhood Watch info. I would know exactly what block there was a car break-in, robbery, etc.

To aid an e-effort, I suggest...

There should be report a crime form on the city website.
The form asks all the questions the Monroe police would ask. This would provide for a more organized and complete report.

These crime incidents should be archived and available to residents in most cases.

That's what I would do if I was running things. But I'm not and I'm only one person.

Here is an email from CSN Officer Mike Worley of the Monroe Police Department regarding the e-neighborhood watch"

Mr. Beagle,

The e-neighborhood watch is a work in progress. The idea behind it is based on the success I’m having with my e-business watch program. Basically I will send out information based on local crimes that we are taking reports on to the community as a heads up, and a way for people to relay any information they have straight to us. The e-business program is going well because businesses don’t always have time to send someone to a meeting but they can read a quick e-mail. I’ve been getting lot’s of good information back from the businesses and they all seem to appreciate the short brief e-mails. The e-neighborhood watch will probably be a little more formal, and will contain more instructive type information. I am available to both groups to do actual meetings if they choose to schedule them. I have every intention of conducting neighborhood watch meetings in the traditional manor, but right now I haven’t seen a lot of interest. I’m not sure if this is because a lot of people are on vacation or if people just don’t talk to their neighbors the way they used too. I’m hoping that maybe later in the year I will see more interest, but for now the e-watch programs are a great way to get the information out. I have someone working on getting the information to join on our web site and hopefully that will work out. As for the e-business program, I have going to the businesses and telling them about it and getting their e-mail info. I have about 150 businesses right now and am still working on it daily. I have had businesses contact me and request to be on the list based on word of mouth from other businesses, so I know they are communicating with each other. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Thanks,

CSO - Officer Mike Worley

"I have someone working on getting the information to join on our web site and hopefully that will work out."

What does it take to get a paragraph and a signup email on the city website? An act of congress? Why does the staff have to hope rather than know it will get posted?

I'm with John on this one.

How hard is it to update a website?
If he's got the info and setup for business how hard is it to change the people you e-mail it to?
I would absolutely love something like this and I hope they do it soon.

Keep it Funky!

Its been over a week, and still no mention on the city website. Does the Monroe PD not have any clout with the person handling the website?

I was told each department is responsible for their own content. There is no single webmaster.

Not bad, only 3 weeks to get something important posted on the city website.

I guess it could wait, who cares about helping cut down on crime in Monroe. Really, everyone really wanted to know the city policy on door to door solicitations. Which is much more urgent.

lol

Some times things can be over looked Prioritized differently then you and I think it should be. We are all human and the city staff does a great job working on a lot of varies issues. Officer Worley is doing a very good job. As he just started the program up from scratch maybe you can cut him some slack or better yet volunteer your help in making the program a success.

Overlooked? Really!

Sure we have a great staff. This is a procedural issue that is not yet defined. My suggestion is to have a procedure and prority for all postings. Also staff should solicit Monroe city departments for news and information that we need to know.

You really don't want my help and advice. But here it is, free of charge.

Hey, this isn't just for me. Its for the community.

I bet more people clicked on your link from this post than from any other source.

And as the program develops, I will be reporting and posting on the eNeighborhood Watch Program right here.

Here is the Monroe eNeighborhood program:

E-Neighborhood Watch

Rather than learning to deal with crime and violence, citizens can become proactive. Forming a Neighborhood Watch is a great way to ensure additional security.
Keeping neighborhoods safe and free of crime requires awareness and diligence on the part of area residents. Forming a Neighborhood Watch in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies effectively reduces crime and mobilizes communities to be a part of a larger homeland security effort. This effective practice covers the steps involved in forming and sustaining a Neighborhood Watch program, as well as how to plan and implement action.

We have established a communication with the current and future Neighborhood Watch groups in Monroe called "E-Neighborhood Watch". If you are interested in becoming a member of your Neighborhood Watch and be placed on the email system, contact:
Community Resource Officer Mike Worley at worleym@monroeohio.org or call 513-360-2206.
