Last year, was it an issue having the garage sale on the last day of school? I know there were groans but not sure if it was truly an issue.

I think the last day of school is June 7th -- does anyone know if this is correct?

Ok, let me re-phrase -
Is it an issue having the garage sale on a school day? Are the bus drivers ok with the added traffic? Can the kids get home from the bus stop ok with the added traffic?
Just throwing out things to think about ahead of time. Never fails every year someone comes up with an issue just before the date.

Or wait until school is out for the year

Isn't already Fri, Sat & Sun?

[br]Unfortunately, the only way to avoid that would be move it from Fri/Sat to Sat/Sun.
That's pretty much a no-go due to various church schedules.

I believe the following weekend is Trenton's Yard Sale Extravaganza weekend.
Personally, I think pushing out any further into the month cuts into normal vacation times for families.

\EDIT: YES...I'm an idiot. It's Fri/Sat/Sun. Sorry about that.

Trenton's is always the third weekend in May -- this year it is May 21 - 22

Personally, I would rather have some not participate due to vacations then to have it when kids are waiting and/or getting on and off school buses.

Dammit! I give.
I know there was a reason...I'll have to ask tomorrow. Sorry.

However - I hear ya on the alternate weekend idea. I'll bring it up tomorrow at the meeting.

OK. I found THIS from last year: http://www.mainstreetmonroe.com/voice/topic.asp?topic_id=18250
Anybody else have any other historical information about date setting for the community garage sale?

Other than not having it the same weekend as Trenton's Extravaganza, Monroe's Prom or Graduation or any other big activity that is planned for the same weekend and perhaps ask the bus drivers if it created a problem on Friday, I think you are good.

Have they set the Large Item Pick Up date? If so, it should be before that date since some like to take advantage of that date to get rid of garage sale leftovers

Just a thought or two

Good thoughts and thank you for them, kind citizen.

It accidently got left off the agenda but the large item pick-up is scheduled to be set for the following weekend (after the garage sale).

That would be correct. Just Saturday.
I'm assuming the same rules still apply from previous years unless Rumpke has modified them. Either way - it'll be listed on the city website.

The following lists acceptable items and how to contain them: (all dimensions are maximum).

Carpet Cut to 4 foot lengths and tied in 2 foot rolls.

Wood Bundled in 4 foot lengths and 2 foot in diameter and tied. Please hammer all nails.

Fencing Bundled in 4 foot lengths and 2 foot rolls.

Metal Poles Cut to 4 foot lengths and tied together.

Construction Debris in cans or bags of no more than 60 lbs. Do not place in boxes.

Furniture/Appliances Appliances containing chlorofluorocarbons (CVCs)i.e. refrigerators, freezers, air conditions, or ice makers, are not collectible until CFC removal is complete. Please call Rumpke at 742-2900 or visit www.rumpke.com to download the necessary refrigerant recovery forms. Once CFC removal is certified, please place the item at the curb for collection with a CFC removal sticker and the completed Refrigerant Recovery Statement (the recovery statement that you received from Rumpke).

Miscellaneous Small Items Place small household items in cans or bags. Drain all fluids from items that contain gasoline or oil.

The following items ARE NOT considered large items and will NOT be picked up: car batteries, household chemicals, car and truck tires, yard waste (grass, leaves, brush), rocks, dirt, concrete, regular trash.

Is there any way we can sign up online or not in person? Or is the office open on Memorial day to stop by and sign up? Unfortunately my work schedule doesn't allow me to get up there during those hours.

Thanks!
