A highlight of every Monroe Area Community  Foundation’s  annual meeting is the announcement of the winner of the Cornerstone Award.  It is presented to "a person, persons or a group who/which has displayed an unselfish use of time or money for the betterment of the Monroe community."  On April 26, 2011, Executive Director John Singleton bestowed this year's  12th Cornerstone Award to Charles “Chuck” Soule.

John said Chuck, who is employed as the facilities director at Monroe Junior/Senior Schools, has left a legacy of buildings and masonry in Monroe and Whispering Oaks.   This includes the high school Victory Bell stand and construction and maintenance of the Community Sign.   In addition, Mr. Soule has positively touched the lives of over two generations of Monroe High School students by working with them in both athletics and extracurricular activities.

Mr. Singleton presented Chuck with a personal plaque naming him the recipient of this award.  A permanent plaque with Mr. Soule’s name inscribed on it will be permanently displayed in the James Monroe Community Room in the city building.
