City Fest Park Debate Heating Up
Wednesday, February 7, 2001 12:00:00 AM - Monroe Ohio
Ann Hinkle, Say Soccer Board Member- Let me say upfront that, for a number of reasons, I believe City Fest is a great event for the community - promotes the city, builds friendships, offers family entertainment, and provides a venue for making a little money for non-profit organizations. However, I understand the park will be closed to the public the entire week PRIOR to the event. I understand time is required for setups, but one week is a bit much. Not only will walkers, joggers, and those exercising pets be impacted, the timing will shut soccer practices down for 10 days. In the past, games have moved to other facilities; but practices have continued, without few, if any, inconvenience to the city. 425+ kids will need to find other locations to practice - not an easy thing to do in Monroe. I propose the city develop a plan now to keep the park open during that EVENING so the community has a safe place to play.
