This week’s highlights:

¨      It’s a big night tonight for Monroe football!  The team plays Fenwick at their stadium, and we all know this is a long-standing rivalry.  The boys won last week’s competition and are 6-1, and in the hunt for MML South Champs.  The weather is perfect for football, so clear your calendar this evening and come out to support the team.

¨      As a side note, check out today’s front page of the Middletown Journal’s sports section.  The article, ‘Dynamic Duo’, is a testament to this year’s entire athletic program.  It’s well written, and the 4 pictures are indicative of the pride that is back in Monroe.

¨      Congratulations to the Girls Soccer team!  They won the MML South league for the second year in a row – very impressive!  Tournament games begin Monday, so stay tuned.

¨      Congrats goes to the following for their recent wins:  Girls soccer teams, Boys soccer teams and Freshman football.

¨      The Booster Club will be meeting next Wednesday, October 19th at 7:00 in the Media Center.  All interested parents, coaches, and community members are invited to attend.  You’ll see a template of the new Record Boards that will be displayed soon.  Please take an hour out of your schedule and plan to attend – we need you J

¨      Speaking of Record Boards, a few of the guidelines the subteam agreed to:

1.                  Track records will reflect races run in meters only – the current distance.

2.                  Swimming records will reflect only ‘yard’ races – the current distance.

3.                  Volleyball records will reflect the new Rally scoring that began just last year.

4.                  The boards will have some blank spaces till the data are recovered.  The subteam has worked diligently to identify accurate records; and members of the community, along with the coaches, have contacted team members as well with their historical information.  It’s a work in progress, but the display will be stellar.

¨      Last, a special thanks to Anita Williams & Mike Smith for managing the concession stand.  Those of us who have ever volunteered in a sports organization know the effort that it takes to coordinate the project.  I, for one, will volunteer for just about any other duty J  But, we appreciate their time and energy.  It’s a good feeling when you arrive at the stadium and smell the burgers …
