I think it’s safe to say that July 4th and 5th, 2008 is a weekend that Monroe will be talking about for quite some time. We have some fantastic surprises lined up for the community and this year’s “Light Up the Sky” festival is one that won’t be soon forgotten.

Starting on July 4th, the city will be hosting the 4th of July parade departing from Heritage Glen and ending with a fantastic opening ceremony at the Monroe Community Park. The city promises to be a wash with Red, White, Blue; and since this is Hornet Country; GOLD!

If you enjoyed last year’s fireworks; wait until you see what we have in store for you this year. It’s bigger, it’s better, and it’s the culmination of a year’s meticulous planning that will leave you breathless!

We have got some incredible bands lined up to keep the park hopping the entire weekend. The Monroe Middle School, Junior High, and High School Bands performing along some of the best sounds from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. We’ve enlisted some of the very best of Monroe’s local high school rock bands. We’ve also secured some of the very best and most popular bands for you. Such as: 9 Story Plunge, Rick House Band, Will Fluke, Aftermath, and quite a few more surprises. I am very proud to announce that headlining this year’s event is Cincinnati’s own – The Snow Shoe Crabs.

This year’s event has doubled from a one day activity to a full two day event. We have entertainment lined up that will please young and old alike for both days – everything from Bingo, Rides and games for the kids, a fabulous car show, pie baking contest, all-the-way to the Buffalo Wing & Rings – wing eating contest…

…this year’s event is one that you cannot miss out on.

We know that Monroe is where you choose to call home. We also know that this event is one that you will want to take part in. We’re hoping that you’re all as excited as we are and would like to help us make this event a success. You can do this by volunteering your time, sponsoring an event, or by your donations. We are working hard to ensure that we give back to Monroe what this city has given to all of us.

Here’s how you can get involved in your community and help make this year’s festival  the best ever:
