Ten residents joined members from city administration, police, fire, union representatives and council on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 6pm in the Monroe Community Room (located in the City Building). The meeting was called to order by Richard Kremer, City Council Finance Representative. (Photo)

Mayor Mike Morris said the purpose of the meeting was to make recommendations regarding city finances to council.

Mayor Morris also provided a mechanism to communicate to between committee members. Email names of those interested are to be sent to John Beagle at the following email address: Other updates will be provided via the City Website,

"Nothing is off the Table" our goals is to come up with a short term plan to handle immediate issues and a longer 5 year budget.

Acting City Manager Bill Brock reviewed the financial information provided at the June 26 Public Forum. He also provided detailed budgets and forecasts. Then the committee broke into 4 budgetary groups:

1. General Administration
2. Fire
3. Police
4. Public Works

Each budgetary group had city representatives as well as community members. For example the Police Chief, Earnest Howard was part of the Police Group.

This meeting was very constructive. Most people said they were involved with this committee because they loved Monroe and wanted to help the city. Some people brought certain expertise to the table. Constance Kepner, works with the Butler County Department of Environmental Services on water and sewer projects.

The meeting lasted over 1 1/2 hours. The next meeting will be Monday, July 14 at 6:30.
