August News and Activities


The Monroe Lending Library is pleased to announce they have received a grant of $500.00 from the Duke Energy Midwest Charitable Giving Program and a $250.00 donation from Baker Concrete of Monroe.  These monies will be used toward the purchase of an outside library book return.


Monday Library hours will be extended beginning August 4th.  New hours are 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Thanks to our volunteers for making the additional hours possible.


Representing the Library in the Fourth of July Parade were Ericka House, Nicholas Osterman and Velia Brock.  Winners of the Light Up the Sky Library Raffle were Red’s jacket Steven Johns and Dayton Dragon tickets Jim Barnes and Kevin Sintz.


The Library Reading Contest began July 19th and continues through August16th.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 readers.  There’s still time to register.  Certificates of Participation will be given to all that enter.


Join us at the Friends of Monroe Library Night at the Fifth Third Field in Dayton to see the Dayton Dragons vs. Ft. Wayne Wizards.  This fund raising event for the library will be held on Friday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10.00 each or a ticket and hat ticket can be purchased for $15.00.  Ticket information is available at the library.


The Library Quarter Auction will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 7-9 p.m.  Preview and seating begins at 6:30 p.m.  Please note NEW LOCATION AT MT. PLEASANT RETIREMENT VILLAGE ACTIVITY CENTER located at the corner of Indiana & Northwestern Avenue.  The Quarter Auction features products from the following companies:  Bear Paws Animal Stuffing, The Pampered Chef, Stampin’Up!, Gold Canyon Candles, Jolly Polly Studios, Home Interiors, Discovery Toys, Creative Memories, Tupperware, Avon, Tastefully Simple and Mary Kay.  All proceeds donated to Monroe Lending Library Building and Operating Fund.  Admission is $1.00 for one paddle.  This is a fun filled family event!   Bring your own quarters and let the bidding begin. 


The Library is located at 231 Macready Avenue (behind the Monroe Primary School.  Library hours are Monday (new) 3 p.m.- 8 p.m., Wednesday 10-a.m. –12 noon, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. –1 p.m.
