Women's Center for HOPE
Tuesday, January 20, 2004 2:04:23 PM - Monroe Ohio
Cindy Basford and Darlene Richey were honored Friday evening during the Elizabeth's New Life Appreciation Service held at St. Charles of Borromeo Church in Kettering. The awards were presented by Vivian Koob, the pro-life organization’s founder and executive director with the assistance of Debbie Nieport, director of development.

Mrs. Basford, a Middletown resident and employee of Monroe Local Schools, was awarded the Service Above Self Award for volunteering at Women's Center for HOPE, 43 "C" New Garver Road in Monroe. Mrs. Basford works every Saturday in the center’s boutique by helping young women and men select items for their families. She sorts and displays donated baby items and decorates the boutique. Her daughter, Sarah, a Lemon-Monroe sophomore, often assists her. Due to the efforts of Mrs. Basford and other volunteers, the boutique’s statistics have experienced a rapid increase.

Mrs. Richey, the center’s lead consultant, received the Heart of a Servant Award. She was nominated by the Women’s Center for HOPE director, Cindy Hoffman. A teacher for over 30 years, Mrs. Richey retired in July from Monroe Local Schools before her employment at the center. Her duties also include coordination of the center’s hotline and boutique. Since Mrs. Richey’s and Mrs. Hoffman’s service, the number of participants in programs at Women’s Center for HOPE has significantly increased.

Women’s Center for HOPE and Kettering’s Women’s Support Center are satellite centers of Elizabeth’s New Life Center of Dayton. Employees and volunteers from all three centers as well as medical staff members and volunteers were also honored and considered for these awards.

According to director Cindy Hoffman, there are still many volunteer opportunities available. Volunteer training will begin on Thursday, Jan. 29. The center is open on Tuesdays from 1-6 P.M., Thursdays from noon until 7:30 P.M., and Saturdays from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. For more information call (513)539-7515.
