Mayor Tannreuther administers the Oath of Office to  New Monroe School Board
Plus additional Board News


April 13, 2000- The Organizational Meeting and first regular meeting of the Monroe Local School District Board of Education was held on April 13, 2000 at 7pm at the Monroe City Building on South Main Street, Monroe. The meeting was held in Council Chambers in front of a standing room only crowd.

Mayor Elbert Tannreuther administered the Oath of Office to the five Monroe Local School Board Members: (From Left to Right) Suzi Rubin, Carol Brotherton, Jamie Pierce, John Birch and Tom Birdwell, Mayor Tannreuther).

The Monroe Board of Education conducted an organizational meeting followed by its first regular board meeting.  


Courthouse packed for First Meeting 

The Rev. Terry Ball (photo at right), pastor of Monroe First Church of God, leads in prayer to a packed house. There was standing room only for the first board meeting. Parents, teachers, and lots of grandparents were present. The atmosphere was upbeat and exciting. Dan Hare presided over the agenda. The meeting lasted from a little after 7PM until nearly 9PM. 




Community Urged to Participate
Three people spoke including Joyce Tannreuther (see photo) addresses the board, she asked about the length of time that the school district plans to have Open Enrollment. The board will make final decisions about Open Enrollment and other issues at the meeting on Monday, April 17, 2000. The community is invited and encouraged to speak at specified times during every open session board meeting. If your view on any given issue is known, we can take that into consideration, otherwise we have no choice but to proceed without your opinion.


MML Membership Renewed!
Sports in the New District
According to Dan Hare, "The Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Mid-Miami League (MML)  said that the high school will not have to reapply to either organization. Its membership will be continuous."

School Campus
No modular for HS, 4 units at Elementary
Dan Hare will make recommendations to the board in the next few of weeks regarding school buildings and other necessary building and storage facilities. Four units will be needed on the elementary level and none at the high school/junior high level. How will the campus look this fall. This is sure to be one of the top issues over the next few months. 


Board Meeting Dates
The board will meet every first and third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. Locations include the Monroe City Building, Monroe Elementary School and the Monroe High School.

Meeting time is 7pm
April 17 City Building
May 1 Lemon-Monroe High School
May 15 Monroe Elementary School
June 5 Monroe City Building
June 19 Monroe City Building
