The Water Meter Replacement Program
Beginning in January and continuing for
the next 12-18 months, the City of Monroe Water Department will actively replace
old-style water meters with new electronic meters. When your old meter is
removed, you will receive a bill based on the final reading. Residents may
need to submit a reading from the new meter until all of the meters in their
area have been replaced. At that time it will no longer be necessary for
City residents to read their own meters. The new meters will be read by
the City electronically. Each new meter has a number which corresponds to
the address. By simply driving by the residence, the meter reader receives
a transmission from the water meter on his portable unit. That portable
unit is then downloaded into the City's new utility billing system.
The City has hired an additional staff person in the Water Department. Ed
Turner will be responsible for the meter replacement program. In most
cases, he will need access to basements and crawl-spaces in your home. Mr.
turner will work flexible hours so that appointments can be made in the early
evening or on Sundays in order to accommodate working families. For safety
and security reasons, Mr. Turner will be driving an easily recognizable City of
Monroe vehicle, wearing a City of Monroe uniform, and will carry photo
identification indicating that he is a City of Monroe employee. thank you
for your cooperation as we aggressively undertake this water meter
replacement project.
