Council approved an expenditure of $17,700 for the demolition of 640 Garver Road residence and silo. The buildings were condemned by Monroe Building department.

The city is making the expenditure due to the owner being unable to pay for the demolition. Once completed, it will likely be purchased added to the land owned by Joe Morgan Honda. The city will be reimbursed the $17k+ at some point in the future once the property changes hand.

Someone will be gettting a heck of a deal for 17,700 for that piece of property. The city should put it up for sale and get a market price out of it.

I beleive the current owner is trying to sale the property but will sell it for a lot more then 17k. He just did not have the funds to demo the buildings. The property will be assessed the cost and we will get the funds back either from the sale or from the tax assessment

Tracy,

Is $17,700 for the demolition a deal? Did the owner save money having the City of Monroe do it???

It is my understanding that the city is not permitted to get more than the $17,700 they invested. Is this correct?

The bids we recieved were from 17,700 up to 24k and the owner did try to get better deals on the demo and could not find them.

We will only recoup the money we spend on the demo.
