Mr. Irwin moved, and Mr. Snyder seconded the motion to approve the SunCoke Plant Location Resolution as shown below:
RESOLUTION FORMALLY DECLARING THAT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION DOES NOT SUPPORT THE CITY OF MIDDLETOWN’S ACTIONS IN REZONING LAND FOR A COKEMAKING AND HEAT RECOVERY PLANT
WHEREAS, the Monroe Local School District Board of Education (the “Board”) has been contacted by many concerned residents regarding the City of Middletown’s actions in approving the rezoning of land for the purpose of permitting the construction of a cokemaking and heat recovery plant; and
WHEREAS, although the Board has no legal authority to approve or disapprove the rezoning of the site for the proposed plant, the Board shares in the concerns of its residents and hereby formally issues notice to the City of Middletown that it does not support the City’s actions in rezoning the land for purposes of permitting the construction of a cokemaking and heat recovery plant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Monroe Local School District Board of Education, County of Butler, State of Ohio as follows:
The Board hereby authorizes the President of the Board to provide the City of Middletown with a letter on behalf of the Board expressing the following: (1) that the Board does not support the rezoning of the land for the proposed cokemaking and heat recovery plant; and (2) the concerns of the residents of the Monroe Local School District and the Board regarding pollution, safety, traffic and noise issues that will result upon construction and operation of the plant.
It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Board concerning or related to the adoption of this Resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Board, and all deliberations of this Board and any of its committees that resulted in such formal actions were adopted in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all applicable requirements of the Ohio Revised Code.
