Cherry Coke Takes Third in League Tourney
July 11,
2000 Cherry Coke C-ball team coached by Greg Gillen, John Hofer and Petrie took third place out of fourteen teams in a two-week long tournament that included league teams from Lindenwald, Shiloh and Darrtown.
The tournament started out in Monroe on July 1st. Cherry Coke played Darrtown and won with lots of offense and a solidly pitched game by Tyler George and Josh Gillen with 15 strikeouts between the two. The final score was 12-5.
The second game played that afternoon was an intercity struggle against a big rival Trader's World. The team got offense just when they needed it from Tyler George with a triple, Jimmy Petrie with a triple and Dillon Talbot who went 4 for 4. They held off a rally in the last inning by Trader's World and won by a score of 10 to 8.
On a hot Sunday afternoon Cherry Coke then squared off against one of the only two teams to beat them in regular season play-the Shiloh turquoise team. With a great offense including Johnny Beagle with a double, Jayson Mulvihill with a double, Josh Gillen with a triple and Maax Hesson with an in the park HOME RUN Cherry Coke scored 15 runs and held off Shiloh in the last inning winning 15 to 8.
Delayed until July 7th by holidays and rain Monroe struggled in a game against the Shiloh yellow team. Down in the last inning by 8 runs, Cherry Coke rallied with two outs and scored 6 runs but fell short losing 10-8. Josh Gillen, Tyler George and Jimmy Petrie combined pitching with an awesome 12 strikeouts.
The bad luck continued for the team when it lost its second game of the tournament on Monday July 10 on a muggy night in Lindenwald. The Shiloh turquoise team had revenge on its mind for the embarrassing defeat one week before. Good pitching and some solid hits from Shiloh beat Monroe by a score of 7-4. A trip to see the Dayton Dragons is planned for a team party by Coach Greg Gillen to cap off a great season.

Baseball Team's Fight For
Second Place
June
27, 2000
The last two games have been slugfests for MainStreetMonroe.com's coach pitch team! Friday night they went head-to-head for second place in their division (first place having been claimed long ago by Worthington Steel) with MacDonald Insurance. The crowd cheered as John Wills went 5 for 5 with 3 RBI's, Bobby Beagle went 4 for 5 with 1 RBI, Alex Ruckman went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's, Zac Eckert went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, Jayson Mulvihill went 4 for 4 with 1 RBI, Cameron Sloane went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a HOME RUN, Tyler went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and Danny Pelfrey went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's. What a night!! The final score was 21-8. Maybe the team was inspired by the fact the Coach Beagle was giving out game balls to anyone one who did "anything good" during the game!!
Monday night their bats were still hot as John Wills went 5 for 5, Matthew Zupanik went 4 for 5 with two doubles, Alex Ruckman went 4 for 5, Zac Eckert went 5 for 5 with three doubles, Jayson Mulvihill was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's, Cameron Sloane was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI's and another HOME RUN, Joe Farrish returned from vacation to go 5 for 5 with a triple and a double and Wesley went 5 for 5 with 4 RBI's. Ericsson Fox was declared the most improved player for the season and received a game ball for his effort.

(B.P.O.E. Elks) team. But the boys didn't give up and in the bottom of the sixth
inning the Monroe Woodcraft Furniture team sent eight batters to the plate.
The usually strong batters from the top of Monroe's line up could only
produce one run early in the game, but in the bottom of the sixth inning,
batters from the bottom of the line-up surprised the crowd and started a
rally. Marshall Kern hit a strong single to center field, followed by a
single to right field by Brandon Trimble and a walk by Kevin Jones. With
bases loaded, Justin Landers hit a single to third base scoring a run,
followed by Jimmy Pressler's double to left field for two RBIs. Casey
Hinkle
then hit a single to center field to score the fourth run of the inning and
Christian Long hit a single to left field to drive in the winning run. WOW,
what an exciting game! It was Monroe Woodcraft Furniture's first home win.
By Friday, June 9th, the team was on a roll! The Woodcraft Furniture
team
played and won it's third game in four nights. Friday night's opponent was
a
tough Lindenwald #2 (Saurber Construction) team that wouldn't give up.
Woodcraft Furniture had lost to Saurber Construction by a score of 9-6
exactly one month earlier when the two teams played at Joyce Park on May
9th.

and scored 2 runs in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth inning, the
Lindenwald team scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game
at 10 runs each. Marshall Kern was walked to start the bottom of the sixth
inning for Woodcraft Furniture. Joshua Barrett then hit a double and a
Brandon Trimble hit a single to drive in Kern for the winning run. Danny

opposing
players while playing third base and left field during the week. Woodcraft
Furniture is now 5-3

Monroe's
Woodcraft Furniture Nearly Gets A 50% Winning Record
|
After starting the season with a
1-1 record the Monroe Woodcraft Furniture team ended the
where it started, with a 50% winning average. The May 15th
game was a hometown battle against the Dave's Carpet Barn team ,
in which they played a near perfect game and Monroe Woodcraft
Furniture team should have stayed home. The Woodcraft
Furniture team committed several errors and could only manage to
get one hit in the shortened game that Dave's Carpet Barn
won 16-0 The next night, the Woodcraft Furniture team redeemed
itself by playing solid defense and hitting .474 as a team to
build a 15-6 lead over the Shiloh #1 team. As the Monroe
Woodcraft Furniture team was about to even its season record to
2-2, cloudy skies produced lighting and the game was called
off. In the bottom of the 4th inning Shiloh #1 had two
outs, just one out short of a complete game. The game
should be continued later in the season. If Woodcraft
Furniture can resume the game where it left off they should
record its second win.
