Hornet Sports News for the week of 5/8/2006:

Tonight is a busy time for Monroe's athletes.  Softball, baseball and track teams all have important competitions scheduled; so take some time out of your schedules and come out to support them!

¡¤   First, if you have any spare time tonight to help Anita Williams in the concession stand during the MML Track and Field Finals, please contact her @ 539-6606.  If you're a track parent, stop by for even 30 minutes to help out.  The stand opens at 4:00.

¡¤   Due to hectic schedules, the Booster Club will meet Wednesday, May 24^th at 7:00 in the Media Center instead of May 17^th.  This is an important meeting as 2006-2007 officers will be elected.  It's not too late to consider running for a position J  All who are interested in the future of Monroe's student-athletes are invited to attend.

  

¡¤       Sports highlights from the week:

1.      The Girls softball team advanced to the sectional finals by beating Dayton Christian 13-1.  Jordan Eastham threw a 1-hit complete game win, earning her 13th win of the season.  Eastham didn't allow an earned run and fanned 8 Warriors batters.  The team will play Madison tonight @ 5:00 in Springboro.  They won the MML South league as well - congratulations!  They are now 18-4 overall and 10-2 in the league.  And, KUDOS to the JV squad who ended the season with a perfect record:  18-0! 

2.      The Baseball team will also play tonight @ 5:00 for the sectional championship!  The team defeated Preble Shawnee 13-3 Monday allowing them to advance to the finals.  They will play #1 seed Carlisle (16-7) at Springboro High School.  And, KUDOS to the JV squad who ended the season 2nd in the MML with a record of 14-3!

3.      The first day of the MML Track & Field Championship meet was held Tuesday at Monroe.  Finals will start @ 4:30 tonight at Monroe.

¡¤       Jordan Eastham, softball pitcher, made the front page of the sports section of the Journal last Saturday.  The junior pitched a no-hitter against Stebbins.  Through 65 ¨÷ innings, she has 65 strikeouts and area-low 0.96 ERA.  Congrats to Jordan!

¡¤       A special thanks to the coaches and parents of the boys' Monroe Swarm 10U baseball team.  Coach Ed Beck, Coach Dave Cable and the team parents offered to prepare the softball diamond last weekend so the high school Girls Softball team could have home-field advantage when they played their tournament game Tuesday evening.  We appreciate their volunteerism to support the student-athletes J
